AVM Sanitary Pneumatic 2-Piece Butterfly Valve is designed for hygienic process pipelines requiring reliable shut-off, repeatable pneumatic operation, and convenient flow adjustment. Its two-piece body structure combines a sanitary stainless steel flow path with a rotary disc mechanism, allowing the valve to be integrated into automated processing equipment without requiring a large installation space.

The Sanitary Pneumatic 2-Piece Butterfly Valve is available with 304L or 316L stainless steel product-contact parts and EPDM as the standard sealing material, with FPM, silicone, and NBR available as options. The pneumatic actuator provides 90° rotary movement for opening and closing, while NC, NO, and double-acting configurations allow the operating mode to be selected according to the process and safety requirements.

Product Features

Hygienic Two-Piece Structure

The valve uses a compact two-piece body with smooth product-contact surfaces to reduce material retention and simplify cleaning. 304L and 316L stainless steel options are available for product-contact components, with an EN 10204 3.1B certificate available according to the selected configuration. The internal surface finish can reach Ra ≤0.8 μm.

Pneumatic Operation for Automated Lines

The pneumatic actuator converts compressed-air movement into 90° rotary motion, enabling rapid and repeatable valve operation. It can be connected to PLC and other process control systems for remote opening, closing, and monitoring. Control air pressure is specified at 5–8 bar.

Sealing for Repeated Opening and Closing

The disc and elastomer seat are designed to maintain sealing during repeated operating cycles. EPDM is the standard sealing material, while FPM, silicone, and NBR can be selected according to the process medium and operating conditions. The actuator provides the required closing torque as the disc reaches the sealing position.

Multiple Operating Configurations

The Sanitary Pneumatic 2-Piece Butterfly Valve can be supplied as normally closed, normally open, or double acting. Working Principle

The valve controls the process medium through a disc mounted on the valve shaft. The pneumatic actuator rotates the shaft through approximately 90°.

When the valve is fully open, the disc is positioned in the direction of the pipeline, allowing the process medium to pass through. As the actuator rotates the disc toward the closed position, the available flow area decreases. When the disc reaches the closed position, it contacts the elastomer seat and blocks the pipeline.

For a normally closed configuration, the spring returns the valve to the closed position when pneumatic pressure is removed. For a normally open configuration, the spring returns the valve toward the open position. A double-acting actuator uses compressed air for both opening and closing.

Pneumatic Operating Modes

Normally Closed

The valve opens when compressed air is supplied and returns to the closed position through spring force when air pressure is removed. This configuration can be used where the process requires automatic flow isolation during loss of pneumatic supply.

Normally Open

The valve closes when compressed air is supplied and returns toward the open position when the air supply is removed. This configuration can be selected when maintaining process flow is preferred during a pneumatic failure.

Double Acting

Compressed air controls both opening and closing movements. This configuration provides consistent actuator force in both directions and is suitable for automated production systems with regular cycling requirements.

Manual Operation

A multi-position locking handle can be installed where local flow adjustment is required. The operator can select fully open, fully closed, or intermediate positions without requiring a pneumatic control system.
