Sanitary Expansion Segmented Ball Valve With CIP System

AVM Sanitary Expansion Segmented Ball Valve with CIP System is designed for hygienic processes where flow control, reliable shut-off and in-line cleaning must be achieved by the same valve. It combines a precision segmented ball with an expansion seat and integrated CIP channels, making it suitable for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food, beverage and fine chemical production.

Unlike a conventional sanitary shut-off valve that may require removal for cavity cleaning, the AVM Sanitary Expansion Segmented Ball Valve With CIP System design allows cleaning fluid to reach critical internal areas during the CIP cycle. This helps reduce manual intervention, shorten cleaning downtime and support repeatable hygienic processing.

Sanitary Expansion Segmented Ball Valve With CIP System

Flow Control, Shut-Off and CIP

Precision Flow Regulation

The segmented ball provides a characterized flow path for stable throttling and repeatable flow adjustment. It is suitable for applications where the valve needs to do more than simply open or close, including liquid dosing, mixing and process-flow regulation.

Expansion Seat for Consistent Sealing

The expansion seat applies controlled sealing pressure against the segmented ball when the valve is closed. Its expansion structure helps compensate for normal seat wear, thermal changes and pressure fluctuations, maintaining reliable shut-off over repeated operating cycles.

Integrated CIP Cleaning

Dedicated CIP ports direct cleaning solution toward the valve cavity, segmented ball and sealing areas. The valve can therefore be cleaned without removing it from the process line, helping reduce disassembly work and production interruptions.

How the CIP System Works

During normal operation, the segmented ball rotates to regulate the process flow.

When the Sanitary Expansion Segmented Ball Valve With CIP System is closed, the expansion seat moves into its sealing position to provide tight shut-off.

During CIP, cleaning solution enters through the dedicated cleaning ports and reaches the internal areas that may otherwise be difficult to clean. The cleaning cycle removes residual product from the ball and sealing areas before the valve returns to normal process operation.

This design is particularly valuable for production lines with frequent product changeovers and strict cleaning requirements.

Design for Hygienic Processing

The valve uses SS316L or SS304L stainless steel, with product-contact surfaces finished to Ra ≤0.4 μm. The optimized internal geometry minimizes dead zones and product retention, supporting easier cleaning and validation.

FKM, EPDM and Silicone sealing materials are available according to temperature, chemical compatibility and process requirements.

Customer Applications

Pharmaceutical Batch Changeover

A pharmaceutical manufacturer required a sanitary control valve for a process line with frequent product changeovers. The main concern was not only shut-off reliability, but also whether residue around the valve cavity and sealing area could be removed without repeated valve removal.

The customer selected the AVM configuration with an integrated CIP system. During cleaning, the CIP circuit delivered cleaning fluid into the internal valve areas, reducing the need for manual disassembly. The customer's feedback focused on shorter cleaning intervention and easier batch changeover, particularly when compared with a conventional valve requiring more manual cleaning work.

Hygienic Liquid Dosing Line

A food-processing customer used the valve in a liquid dosing and mixing system where stable flow adjustment and reliable cleaning were both required. The segmented ball provided controlled flow regulation, while the expansion seat maintained tight shut-off during process isolation.

The customer particularly valued having flow control and in-line cleaning capability within the same valve configuration, reducing the number of separate components required around the process line.

Certifications and Compliance

AVM sanitary valve products are supported by applicable 3-A Sanitary Standards, ISO 9001, CE and FDA compliance.

The Sanitary Expansion Segmented Ball Valve can be configured for GMP-oriented pharmaceutical production and ASME BPE-based hygienic systems, with 316L stainless steel, sanitary surface finishing and suitable sealing materials available according to project requirements.

FAQ

What is the main advantage of the expansion seat?

The expansion seat provides controlled sealing pressure against the segmented ball and helps compensate for normal seat wear and operating changes, supporting reliable shut-off.

Can the valve perform flow regulation?

Yes. The segmented ball is designed for stable and repeatable throttling, making the valve suitable for dosing and process-flow control in addition to isolation.

Is the CIP system integrated into the valve?

Yes. Dedicated CIP ports allow cleaning fluid to reach the internal cavity and sealing areas without removing the valve from the process line.

Is it compatible with SIP?

Yes. CIP is standard for the stated configuration, while SIP-compatible designs can be provided according to process temperature and project requirements.

What industries use this valve?

It is suitable for pharmaceutical, API, biotechnology, food, beverage, dairy, nutraceutical and fine chemical processing.
