Sanitary Pneumatic 3-Way Diverter Valve For Powder

The AVM Sanitary Pneumatic 3-Way Diverter Valve for Powder is designed for production lines that need to automatically route powders and bulk materials to different destinations. Instead of simply opening or closing a process line, the valve switches the conveying path between multiple outlets or combines material from different inlets.

With pneumatic actuation, position feedback and a rotary diverter mechanism, the Sanitary Pneumatic 3-Way Diverter Valve For Powder provides fast and repeatable material routing for pharmaceutical, food, chemical, plastic, battery and other bulk-material processing systems.

Automatic Material Routing

One Inlet to Two Outlets

The Sanitary Pneumatic 3-Way Diverter Valve For Powder can direct material from one conveying line to either of two downstream destinations. This configuration is useful when one powder source supplies multiple hoppers, silos, mixers or processing machines.

Two Inlets to One Outlet

The same principle can be configured for flow convergence, allowing material from two different sources to enter one downstream conveying line.

This flexibility reduces the need for multiple individual isolation valves and simplifies automated material-routing systems.

Pneumatic Switching and Feedback

The pneumatic actuator rotates the internal diverter element between preset positions according to a signal from the control system.

A solenoid valve controls the actuator, while integrated limit switches confirm the actual valve position. The feedback signal can be connected to a PLC or DCS system, allowing the conveying equipment to proceed only after the required flow path has been confirmed.

This is particularly useful for automated batching and recipe-controlled powder transfer.

Diverter Mechanisms

Rotary Plate Type

The rotary plate design provides a straightforward switching structure for common powder and granule conveying applications. Its compact construction allows efficient integration into existing process lines.

Rotary Cylinder Type

The rotary cylinder configuration provides a different internal flow arrangement for applications requiring specific switching angles or material-flow characteristics.

Both configurations can be customized according to conveying conditions, material properties and installation requirements.

Flow for Powder Conveying

The internal flow path is designed to reduce sharp transitions and unnecessary resistance as material passes through the valve.

This helps reduce:

Pressure loss, supporting efficient pneumatic conveying.

Material retention, reducing residual powder inside the valve.

Product degradation, helping protect fragile granules and pellets.

Blockage risk, particularly during continuous material transfer.

For sanitary applications, internal surfaces can be finished to Ra 0.6 μm (400#).

Switching Angles

Standard configurations include 30° and 45° switching angles, while customized outlet arrangements can be manufactured to suit specific plant layouts.

The Sanitary Pneumatic 3-Way Diverter Valve For Powder can therefore be installed between conveying lines, hoppers, silos and processing equipment without requiring major changes to the overall material-handling system.

Applicable Bulk Materials

The AVM diverter valve is designed to handle powders, granules, pellets, flakes and powder-granule mixtures.

Typical materials include pharmaceutical powders and APIs, flour, sugar, starch, chemical powders, plastic pellets, lithium battery materials, minerals, cement and fly ash.

Applications

Pharmaceutical Powder Routing

Used to transfer APIs, excipients and pharmaceutical powders between conveying lines, storage vessels and processing equipment while supporting automated route selection.

Food & Nutraceutical Processing

Suitable for flour, sugar, starch, nutritional ingredients and other dry bulk materials where hygienic construction and controlled routing are required.

Lithium Battery Material Handling

Used for routing cathode, anode, graphite and other new-energy materials between different processing or storage points.

Plastic & Polymer Processing

Suitable for directing plastic pellets, resin and other granular materials to different production or storage systems.

Chemical & Bulk Material Conveying

Used in fine chemical, cement, mining, metallurgy and other industries requiring reliable switching of dry bulk materials.

Automation and Configuration

For automated production lines, the valve can be equipped with pneumatic actuator, solenoid valve, position indicator, proximity sensors and PLC/DCS control integration. For specific environments, AVM can also provide mirror-polished sanitary finishes, pharmaceutical-grade configurations, high-pressure sealing, and explosion-proof actuator packages.

Customer Applications

Pharmaceutical Multi-Destination Powder Conveying

A pharmaceutical manufacturer needed to transfer one powder stream between two processing lines according to different production recipes. Manual switching created additional operator involvement and increased the possibility of selecting the wrong conveying route.

AVM supplied a pneumatic 3-way diverter valve with solenoid control and position feedback. The valve was integrated with the customer's PLC so that the conveying route could be selected automatically. The customer feedback focused on more consistent route switching, confirmation of valve position before conveying and reduced manual intervention.

Battery Material Routing System

A new-energy material producer required one conveying line to supply different storage destinations for dry battery materials. The customer was concerned about powder residue inside the switching valve affecting subsequent batches.

AVM configured the valve with a streamlined internal passage and sanitary surface treatment. After installation, the customer highlighted lower material retention, smoother switching between destinations and easier cleaning during material changeover.
